So, on my last posting day in August I
pondered the impending DMP license announcements that would not come until Yaoi-con (which was held this past weekend). I predicted that the "big" announcement would be a license rescue, and I was right about that, however, I was wrong about which title it would be. I hypothesized that it had to be either Youka Nitta's
Haru wo Daiteita or Ayano Yamane's
Viewfinder. As it
turned out, neither title has yet to be licensed (though it seems VF's relicensing is practically imminent). I don't know how I could have missed the obvious option of a rescue of Hinako Takanaga's
The Tyrant Falls in Love, though perhaps I could excuse myself as having still been clinging to the hope that DramaQueen might some day rise from their own charred remains.
What surprised me more, however, was the rescue of Kazuma Kodaka's
Kizuna, which I'm very happy about, but at the same time worried that this is only going to hurt DMP's overall sales, as
kizuna_project has been bringing us scanlations of the title for a couple years now and everyone has pretty much had their cravings sated. I will almost certainly be replacing my CPM volumes, as they only go up to volume 8 and I hate having mismatched sets, but it begs the question of what my existing 8 volume set is worth in resale. Maybe I can purge it in trade, which is something to think about for the future.
Ultimately, though, I was right that they would roll out a new Tateno license during the convention and though I hadn't hypothesized in my entry about which title, I was pretty confident that it would be
Koyoi wa Kimi to Chi no Kiss wo (licensed as
A Bloody Kiss Tonight) and would be licensed under their DokiDoki imprint (because the publisher, Shinsokan, has an exclusive licensing agreement with DokiDoki). This pretty much leaves some of Tateno's early shojo titles (unlikely to be licensed),
CUTExGUY,
Gerbera and
Myuuzu Gakuen de Aou left to be licensed in English.
