It's my posting day and this came up on the internet today, so I decided to write down some of my thoughts on it. Twitter is a useful tool, but 140 characters is not enough to have a meaningful discussion about any topic.

Basically, this guy, found this Kickstarter project and incited this petition to remove it. Incidentally, and quite bizarrely giving this whole issue an anime link, this is the guy in question.

The real problem here is that men like this think they're entitled to get laid and any trick they can perform to convince women to sleep with them is acceptable, as long as those women don't scream "no." For this reason I understand the disgust people are feeling over this issue, and I am in no way trying to be complicit in this creep's worldview. However, at the same time, advice that could potentially mislead readers into believing that forcing themselves on women completely against their will is not the same as telling them outright to rape them. It's not even suggesting that rape is okay. It is certainly suggesting that sexually harassing women is okay (which it isn't). It is certainly encouraging men to take dangerous risks with their own safety and, to be perfectly honest, freedom by engaging in less-than-gentlemanly and borderline illegal conduct, but it isn't telling them to continue when the woman says no. Nothing shown in any of the blurbs seems to indicate that these women have had their faculties removed under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, or that they are unable to give consent for any other reason (under-aged, mentally disabled).

It is disheartening that this entire tactic seems more drawn from a perception that "getting awesome with women" is the precipice of manliness, and that finding meaningful life fulfillment without tricks and douchey bullying is considered "pussyness." It is likewise worrying that any of the obvious losers looking for sex advice in this book might take "be dominant" and "don't wait for consent" to mean "do whatever you want regardless of what the woman says or does about it." Ultimately the greatest concern over this entire affair is that because of this book someone is going to get sexually assaulted, someone else is going to go to jail for sexual assault, and the completely careless Mr. Hoinsky is going to find himself sued over his bad advice.

So, in summary, this ill-conceived project is:

Condoning rape, no.

Encouraging sexual harassment, yes.

Potentially dangerous, yes.

He should probably rethink this thing before it goes to print, and we should all rethink how our society's values about sex and conquest lead people down paths to dark and disgusting places. Ultimately, I think my biggest disappointment here is that all too often this is the kind of relationship advice that is given to socially awkward men on the internet. We'd all be living in a much better world if these stories looked a lot more like this one.

Haven't posted since June? What is wrong with me? Mostly I just miss my posting day and tell myself I'll do it next week, by which time I've forgotten again and the cycle continues.

Anyway, I haven't had the motivation to work on my fics in quite a while. Work sucks and I never have the energy. I've also started playing LJ's new Farm Frenzy game and I need friends to play with. To kill two birds with one stone on this I thought I'd offer fics to anyone who signs up for the game (I'll also upgrade some stuff for you in the game!). The rules? Only fandoms I am familiar with will be accepted. Fandoms I am a fan of will probably result in better (and longer) fics. See my profile for fandoms I am familiar with. My major fandoms are Makoto Tateno universes (Yellow, Aoi Hitsuji no Yume in particular), Gravitation and X. I've also recently gotten into Vampire Knight, so I'll accept requests for that one as well. Requests should include the series, characters/pairings and as much specific detail as you want, but at least a basic premise. I promise to write at least 300 words, but depending on inspiration it may end up in the 1000s. Please note I prefer canon pairings, but I will accept requests for non-canon and/or slash pairings as well.

Notes: Some dialogue lifted from the EX scanlation. I hope the smut in this chapter makes up, even a little bit, for both the lack of it in the last chapter, and the long wait since the last chapter.

So, on my last posting day in August I pondered the impending DMP license announcements that would not come until Yaoi-con (which was held this past weekend). I predicted that the "big" announcement would be a license rescue, and I was right about that, however, I was wrong about which title it would be. I hypothesized that it had to be either Youka Nitta's Haru wo Daiteita or Ayano Yamane's Viewfinder. As it turned out, neither title has yet to be licensed (though it seems VF's relicensing is practically imminent). I don't know how I could have missed the obvious option of a rescue of Hinako Takanaga's The Tyrant Falls in Love, though perhaps I could excuse myself as having still been clinging to the hope that DramaQueen might some day rise from their own charred remains.

What surprised me more, however, was the rescue of Kazuma Kodaka's Kizuna, which I'm very happy about, but at the same time worried that this is only going to hurt DMP's overall sales, as kizuna_project has been bringing us scanlations of the title for a couple years now and everyone has pretty much had their cravings sated. I will almost certainly be replacing my CPM volumes, as they only go up to volume 8 and I hate having mismatched sets, but it begs the question of what my existing 8 volume set is worth in resale. Maybe I can purge it in trade, which is something to think about for the future.

Ultimately, though, I was right that they would roll out a new Tateno license during the convention and though I hadn't hypothesized in my entry about which title, I was pretty confident that it would be Koyoi wa Kimi to Chi no Kiss wo (licensed as A Bloody Kiss Tonight) and would be licensed under their DokiDoki imprint (because the publisher, Shinsokan, has an exclusive licensing agreement with DokiDoki). This pretty much leaves some of Tateno's early shojo titles (unlikely to be licensed), CUTExGUY, Gerbera and Myuuzu Gakuen de Aou left to be licensed in English.

If you'll remember the lyrics meme I did I while back, I combed the wide internet searching for the official music videos for each of the songs and collected them here for your enjoyment. Basically, last week sucked, a lot. I worked over 60 hours and I desperately need something to lighten the mood. I decided to do this meme, but in light of the fact that my last paycheck came with roughly the equivalent of an extra week's pay in it, overtime I'd honestly rather have NOT done (and for anyone curious, it was over 30 hours--I'm paid biweekly), I decided to spice it up a bit. Seeing as how there is still a little under an hour left before my posting day is over, I thought I'd drop in. 

Amazingly enough, there have been no new requests on the drabble meme from months ago.  It really is open to anyone who wants to request (two still available!)...

Anyway, my real purpose for posting tonight is to let you all (few) know that I finally created the Aoi Hitsuji no Yume community that I have wanted to make for some time now.  It's actually going to be a Steal Moon/AHnY community, so if anyone is interested in joining, head over to isis_terminal and check it out.  The layout isn't done yet and there is only one crudely put together icon right now, but that'll all get fixed up in the coming weeks and months, so no worries.  chrysa will be helping out on that front, so any encouragement should be thrown in her direction.  ^_^

I've been thinking about some AHnY ficcage and trying to motivate myself to get work done on Catch before the end of the year.  As long as nothing else major comes along I am going to make Catch my priority for the next month.  I don't feel like one chapter a year is a fast enough pace (considering there are at least 4 more chapters to go...), so I apologize to anyone who is suffering because of my slow hand.  Hopefully once I get over the hump that is chapter 5, things will pick up again. 

I put in a request on youkai_girl's round of this meme, so here is mine.

The first five comments will get their own drabble (~100-300 words). If you request something, please put this in your own journal (unless you already have).

I don't have time to write crossover fics (and they wouldn't make sense in a drabble, anyway), so none of those.  I wil not write non-canon pairings, so any pairings you want me to write must be justifiable in canon (Ichigo/Rukia can squeak by, but Ichigo/Byakuya ain't happenin', sorry).  This is to make it easier for me to write short fics for fandoms that I do not normally write for.  Also, don't expect too much.  I can barely do anything with less than 300 words to work with, so you're not going to get anything particularly erotic.

Please be specific about what you want.  Give me the series/universe you want, the characters you want to be in it and some kind of prompt about what you would like to see happen (it can be very specific, like "I want to see these two characters fight over pocky" or vague like the prompt, "stone").  If you do not give me these three pieces of information I will ignore your request until you do.  If 5 other fics have been successfully requested (whether they posted before you or not) before you add the necessary information, you will be out of luck, sorry.  

The fics may take me a few days to finish/post. I am very busy with work this week, so I will do them as I have time.  I apologize in advance for any delays.  This meme will remain active until the 5 requests are made (however long that takes: weeks, months, years...).

I will write for the following fandoms and any others not listed here that are present on my FF.net profile bio or in my interests list here at LiveJournal (on the user info page).  Keep in mind that fandoms I have already written for are ones I am more comfortable with and will probably result in better fics.
